working with us is like venting to your bff, plus getting real expert advice.

I remember when I had my first baby and hired a sleep consultant. Let’s just say it wasn’t an awesome experience- mostly because it wasn’t tailored to me. It was a generic plan and rigid set of outdated instructions that didn’t have my unique and wonderfully spirited baby in mind.

At Hey, Sleepy Baby, we’re here to change sleep support. We want you to feel empowered in your values, educated in your options, and confident about your choices. We are a team of experts in infant sleep, feeding & developmental psychology ready to help you find your unique path so you can feel great about your relationship with your baby and connection as a family (while getting more sleep- duh!).

about this approach

We do not sleep train using ANY crying or separation methods. If you are looking for a sleep trainer, we are probably not a match for you-and that’s ok!

Our approach is so different because we help you get to the root cause(s) of your baby’s sleep disturbances, so that you can address any underlying issues. We’ll also be honest with you if your little one’s sleep patterns are already developmentally appropriate, and will give you coping strategies and reassurance. We then work with you to minimize whatever is no longer working for your family (like bouncing for hours at bedtime or contact napping all day!). Finally, we help you optimize the things within your control and learn how to let go of what isn’t.

We will also help you to understand biologically normal infant sleep. Night wakings are normal, protective, and conducive to a breastfeeding relationship. That being said, we of course want as few of them as we can get! We’ll help you optimize your baby’s sleep patterns so that your whole family gets more rest with NO sleep training. It IS possible!

At the end of your consultation, you’ll deeply understand your child and be prepared to tackle any sleep issue with calm, confidence, and compassion.

  • mary told us:

It was probably the hardest month of parenting I’ve been through in our 17 months together and she was exactly what I needed during that time. I learned so much from her, not only about sleep but also respectful parenting. My son’s sleep is getting so much better than before thanks to the tips I learned from her. He’s taking about a 2 hour nap in his crib most days, at bedtime takes about 30 minutes of me in his room before transferring instead of an hour minimum like before. Overall, I would say the care I received far exceeded my expectations. I felt like a VIP and Mariana truly held my hand during our time together. If anyone is ever questioning the price of the 1:1 month of support, I would encourage them to think of how much their time is worth and let them know that package is so much more support than what is described from the kindest, smartest, most genuine person.

  • lindsay also said:

The improvement in our little man's sleep was better than anything we expected. He is sleeping so great at night now and we could not be happier!

  • then nora chimed in:

I absolutely love Mariana and could feel what a kind person she is, even through emails. The experience came with such a wealth of information and resources. I felt true genuine care and investment in our situation.

  • with another two-cents from casey:

We reached out to book the consultation at a difficult time in our baby's sleep journey, so our first video meeting was just what we needed. We felt listened to, validated, and respected. She also knows her stuff! So it was reassuring to hear her provide education and ideas that were specific to our needs and our baby's unique and strong personality. We are working to wean him from needing to eat to sleep with caregivers- which honestly seemed like a daunting and terrifying task- but Mariana gave us tools to begin that process that ended up working so well.

  • then tori said:

We booked a 1-hour video consultation with Mariana because the comprehensive packages were sold out, but even that one hour was a godsend. Mariana has a kind and empathetic approach that’s rooted in realism and practical solutions. She listened to our needs, understood our child's unique situation, and helped us come up with a transition plan. We got so many takeaways from that conversation, but the biggest thing was understanding what our highly sensitive son needed and realizing that traditional approaches don’t work for him.

We started to see improvements within a week of implementing the strategies that Mariana helped us come up with. Our son now sleeps like a dream at daycare, and he was able to adapt to falling asleep easily with dad at bedtime. No fussing, crying, or screaming for mom’s breast. And no sleep training! Thank you, HSB fam! I will definitely be back when it's time to climb the next summit.

  • Hi, I’m Gillian! I’m a certified Baby-Led Sleep Consultant, former Social Worker and Early Childhood Educator, as well as a mom of one. I live on Vancouver Island with my husband and daughter.

With a background in developmental psychology and more than a decade of experience working within early childhood, I went into motherhood feeling prepared and confident. So when my baby’s sleep didn’t fit into the neat ideologies I had created in my mind, I felt stuck. I knew I didn’t want to sleep train but it felt as though I had no other option. Either I must separate from my infant or wait-it-out. But I was beyond exhausted.

The narrative around infant and toddler sleep is often drenched in patriarchal, behaviourist-centred beliefs. And this is where my ideology of sleep was too, without even knowing it! I naively thought my baby would just… sleep. All the time. You know, “sleep like a baby”. But in fact infant brain development and attachment science shows us that a child’s best outcomes are rooted in nurturing and responsive parenting.

My promise is to help you understand your baby or toddler’s development and get better sleep using your instincts. I look at your baby as a unique individual who you are the expert on. We will work together to combine my training and your expertise on your child to approach sleep in a way that respects the parent-infant dynamic.
